Occasionally social media posts get ahead of the facts, such as this recent case in Shellbrook.
On Saturday, Aug. 25th, Shellbrook RCMP received a complaint of an attempted child abduction involving an 11-year-old female at a business in Shellbrook.
A 61-year-old male from the community was identified as a possible suspect.
Further investigation – which included surveillance video – determined that the male was not present at the business and the incident never occurred.
The complainant subsequently confirmed this, attributing the complaint to a misunderstanding.
This investigation is now considered concluded.
As false information was circulating on social media, the RCMP felt it important to advise the public of the outcome of this investigation.
