Second fatal fire in Sask in a week

There was a fatal fire in the Swift Current area yesterday, the second fatal fire in Saskatchewan in a week after a fire at Kamsack Feb. 21.

On February 27th 2019 at approx. 2 pm Swift Current Rural RCMP responded to a call of a structure fire at a land location just west of Swift Current south of Highway 1.

Upon arrival RCMP and the RM of Swift Current Fire Department found two trailers fully engulfed in flames.

Once the fire was extinguished two deceased people were located in one of the trailers.

The cause of the fire is under investigation with the assistance of the Saskatchewan Fire Marshall’s office and the Office of the Chief Coroner. Notification of next kin is pending identification of the deceased by the Coroner’s office.

On February 21, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Kamsack RCMP responded to a house fire in Kamsack.

When RCMP officers and firefighters from the Kamsack Fire Department arrived at the scene the house was engulfed in flames with one adult male inside.

RCMP officers and Kamsack Fire Department firefighters were unable to enter the residence due to the flames.

When the fire was extinguished, the 77-year-old male resident was located inside his home deceased. An autopsy has been ordered. The identity of the deceased male is not being released. His family has been advised of the death.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time. However, it is not believed to be suspicious in nature.

The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the Provincial Fire Scene Examiner.
