Gaasenbeek arrested in Rocanville on child porn charges

On June 23, 2019 the Saskatchewan ICE Unit (Integrated Child Exploitation) received information that two males were accessing cloud based child pornography, sharing child pornography, and discussing sexually assaulting children they had access to on a popular social media application.

After a brief but intense investigation that also involved the assistance of the Southern Albert ICE Unit, the Department of Homeland Security, the Regina Police Service and the Moosomin RCMP Detachment, Robert Allen Gaasenbeek, age 35, of Regina was arrested on June 26 in Rocanville and charged with the following:

3 counts of Sexual Interference Sec. 151 of the Criminal Code

1 count each of:

Make Child Pornography Sec. 163.1 (2) of the Criminal Code

Possession of Child Pornography Sec. 163.1(4) of the Criminal Code

Accessing Child Pornography Sec. 163.1(4.1) of the Criminal Code

Transmit Child Pornography Sec. 163.1(3) of the Criminal Code

Agreement to Commit a Sexual Offence Against a Child Sec, 172.2(1){b)

The investigation also involve the execution of search warrants in Rocanville and Regina where numerous devices were seized for forensic analysis.

Robert Gaasenbeek was transported to Regina where he was held in custody and appeared in Regina Provincial Court on June 27 at 2:00 p.m. when his matter was adjourned to Thursday July 4.

The Saskatchewan ICE Unit is comprised of investigators from the RCMP, Regina Police Service, Saskatoon Police Service, and Prince Albert Police Service.

Their mandate is to investigate crimes involving the abuse and/or exploitation of children on the Internet.

Gaasenbeek is a carpenter who was working in the area, which is why he was arrested in Rocanville.

The investigation is ongoing. The investigation currently spans two provinces with two suspects.
