Firefighters usually advise people to stay away from things that are hot, but the Rocanville Fire Department is hoping people pick up their 2020 calendar, full of the firemen showing off their stuff.

Janelle Kurbis brought up the idea for the calendars. “I’ve always wanted to do a calendar for the fire department. I thought it would be a lot of fun,” she said.

“It didn’t take a lot of arm-twisting to get them to agree.

“I let them know that I would co-ordinate the whole thing, so they thought they would be silly not to do it, and I agreed.

“They were a little shy when we started with the pictures, but they warmed up as the evening went on and it turned out to be a really fun night.

“I just thought we would try it, and I thought they would sell really well, and they have been. I knew it would be a good way to make money, and the more they can sell the better—it will be good for the department.”

Barb Rudniski said the whole project came together very easily.

“Janelle Kurbis approached the fire department and asked if we would do these calendars.

“Keeli McGonigal took the photos and Janelle Kurbis did everything else. She had all the props and she organized everything.

“We don’t have a fundraising target, we just want to raise as much as we can to put into our equipment.”

Rudniski said that when the idea of the calendars came up, it took a little bit of convincing to get everyone on board.

“It took a couple of hours of discussion but they agreed,” she said. “It was quite a fun evening.”

The calendars are available at Decker’s H20 and Spirits to Go in Rocanville and also from any Rocanville firefighter.
