There are a lot of events coming up this week to kick off the Christmas shopping season in local communities.
Moosomin Moonlight Madness Wednesday, Esterhazy Moonlight Madness Thursday, Rocanville Light Up Thursday, Moosomin Santa Day Saturday, Esterhazy Santa Day Saturday, Virden Santa Parade Saturday


Moosomin Moonlight Madness


The Moosomin Chamber of Commerce is planning its Moonlight Madness promotion this Wednesday, December 4.

From 5-9 pm, shoppers can pick up a cash card from participating businesses, have it stamped at that business, make a purchase and have it stamped at four more restaurants or stores, and enter to win $500, $250, or $100 in Moosomin Bucks.

The staff at Flaman in Moosomin are putting together a Christmas hay ride to take children and families on rides during Moonlight Madness.

The hay ride will be leaving from the Co-op Marketplace Foods parking lot, and there will be hot chocolate.

Also during Moonlight Madness, Borderland Co-op’s mascot Cooper will be making the rounds of the stores with a Santa sack full of coupons and offers from local businesses.

Esterhazy Moonlight Madness


Esterhazy businesses are planning their annual Moonlight Madness for Thursday, December 5.

Moonlight Madness will be running 6-10 pm, and shoppers can enter at participating businesses to win Esterhazy Bucks.

Many Esterhazy businesses will be having specials for Moonlight Madness.

Several Esterhazy businesses are part of the World-Spectator’s $15,000 Christmas Giveaway, and as in other communities, shoppers can enter at those businesses to win $15,000 to spend at participating businesses.

Rocanville Light Up Night


Rocanville Economic Development is presenting Rocanville’s light up night this Thursday, December 5.

There will be a weiner roast at the fire hall and the Christmas tree will be lit.

There will be a bake sale at Super Thrifty, with proceeds to the Rocanville Aquatic Centre.

There will be a Christmas craft making session at the Library at 6 pm.

Cards will be handed out that shoppers can have stamped at participating businesses in order to enter to win gift cards valued at $850.

Moosomin Santa Day


Moosomin’s Santa Day is coming up Saturday, December 7, with photos with Santa offered in the morning, and a free movie at the Moosomin Community Theatre in the afternoon.

Photos will be offered by Debra Mavin Photography at the Armory Hall from 9 am to 12 noon.

The backdrop will be provided by Right at Home Decor, which created a wonderful backdrop for the photos last year.

Borderland Co-op is donating the Santa Day treats.

Kids who get their photo taken with Santa will receive a pass for a free movie and free popcorn at the Moosomin Community Theatre Saturday afternoon.

The cost of the movie and popcorn will be covered by the Moosomin Chamber of Commerce.

The movie is a matinee performance of Arctic Dogs, a new animated feature, playing at 2 pm at the Community Theatre.

Esterhazy Santa Day


Esterhazy’s Santa Day is coming up this Saturday, December 7.

From 2-4 pm there will be a free showing of Arctic Dogs for the kids at the Maple Leaf Theatre, sponsored by the town of Esterhazy.

At the same time there will be a Christmas Concert at the SN Boreen Centre featuring Cassandra and James Betts.

From 4 pm to 7 pm kids can come say hi to Santa at the SN Boreen Centre and can enjoy a sleigh ride with Randy Banga and his Belgian Horses. There will be free hot chocolate and coffee, and hot dogs for $2.

From 4:30 to 6:30 pm, there will be free public skating at the Dana Antal Arena.

Virden Santa Parade Saturday


Virden will host its Santa Claus Parade this Saturday, December 7.

The Santa parade will take place at 6 pm and will start at the fairgrounds.

The parade will travel north on Third Avenue, east on Frame Street, north on First Avenue, west on King Street, north on Third Avenue, west on Hargrave, south on Fifth Avenue, west on King Street, and south on Seventh Avenue through the downtown area.
