When Moosomin town council met Wednesday, March 25, for the first time it was without the mayor and councillors meeting around the council table. The impact of Covid-19 reverberated locally and around the world last week.

Many stores and businesses across the area are closed to help people practice social distancing.

Some businesses remain open, but have limited public access to their buildings.

The federal Quarantine Act was invoked last week to force people returning to Canada from out of the country to self-isolate for 14 days.

The federal government initiated a $2,000 per month payment last week to individuals who have lost their employment due to Covid-19. Few details of the program were available at press time, but more details of the program will be available this week.

Every event has been cancelled and meetings are being held remotely. In Saskatchewan, no more than 10 people are allowed to gather in one place under measures to limit the spread of Covid-19.

The government of Manitoba has said that it will set up checkpoints at the Saskatchewan border this week to inform travellers from other provinces of the need to self-isolate.
