Selkirk RCMP respond to armed break and enter, officer injured

On January 15, 2021, at approximately 9:00 am, Selkirk RCMP received a report of a male armed with a knife outside a business on Main Street in Selkirk, Manitoba. When officers responded, the male had broken into a business. Officers immediately arrested the male, but while doing so, one officer was injured and required medical attention. The knife was seized. While on scene, police discovered that a small fire had been set by the male and officers extinguished it before it got out of control.

The male was exhibiting signs of drug impairment at the time of his arrest.

The 30-year-old male from Lac du Bonnet is charged with Break and Enter, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Assault Peace Officer, Resist Arrest, Arson, Assault With a Weapon, and Mischief Under $5000.

The officer was treated and released for injuries sustained.
