Russell RCMP charge two after homicide investigation
Two arrested for the 2019 murder of 40-year-old Matthew Swain

Russell RCMP have laid two homicide charges in connection with a murder in 2019.
On March 1, 2021, two adult males and 1 adult female, from the Gambler First Nation, were arrested in connection with the homicide of 40-year-old Matthew Swain.
In consultation with the Manitoba Crown Prosecutions Office, 34-year-old Robert Fleury was charged with Manslaughter and 29-year-old Desmond Tanner was charged with 2nd Degree Murder.
Both accused were remanded into custody.
A 24-year-old female who was also arrested was later released from custody without charge.
The charges relate to an incident in 2019.
On August 14, 2019, at approximately 12:30 am, Russell RCMP received a report of an assault on Highway 16 near the Russell Airport.
40-year-old Matthew Swain was taken to hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.
