Justin Gerard went to the store for snacks recently and left with much more than he expected.

The Whitewood resident discovered his LOTTO 6/49 ticket for the April 3 draw won $1 million on the lottery's Guaranteed Prize Draw.

Gerard purchased his winning Lotto 6/49 ticket at Can-Am Travel Stop, located at the junction of Highways 1 and 9 in Whitewood.

He returned to the store the day after the draw to check his ticket.

“I had run into the store to grab a couple snacks for me and a couple buddies,” he said. “I had a couple lottery tickets to check, so I handed them to the cashier.”

“I wasn’t paying much attention when she was scanning my tickets, but I looked at the screen and thought it said I had won $1,000,” he continued. “When I took a better look, and realized I had actually won $1 million, my mind was blown! I was shocked!”

Gerard said he has started thinking about what to do with his winnings.

“I want to be responsible and put money away for my daughter and my retirement,” he said. “I’m also looking into purchasing a home – to be able to buy a house, that’s a dream come true.”

Gerard won his million-dollar prize by matching the Guaranteed Prize Draw selection – 25646029-01.

He is Saskatchewan’s second lottery millionaire since the start of 2021. The first million-dollar lottery prize was a Feb. 13 Lotto 6/49 Guaranteed Prize Draw win in Regina.

Sask Lotteries is the main fundraiser for more than 12,000 sport, culture and recreation groups in communities across Saskatchewan.
