Supporters of regional libraries are planning a DARE (Drop Everything and Read) Challenge in front of MLA Steven Bonk's office at 622 Main Street in Moosomin over the noon hour on Friday. Regional libraries are facing major funding cuts in the 2017 federal budget.

The Moosomin Library Board is asking supporters to meet in front of the MLA office at 12:05 Friday and bring a book to illustrate that books and libraries are important to the community.

The Southeast Regional Library's operating grant was cut by 58 per cent in the 2017 budget.

As a result of the cutbacks, the regional library is planning to end the purchase of new materials, end the transefer of items between library branches, end the provision of digital resources, end special programming, end IT support for public access computers, and end the region's payroll system and administrative support.
