Cigarettes, cash seized by Yorkton RCMP

At approximately 8 p.m. on April 8, 2017, Yorkton Municipal RCMP responded to a call for assistance from CN Rail Police regarding a traffic stop in the City of Yorkton and subsequent seizure of illegal tobacco products.
RCMP seized approximately 200,000 cigarettes and over $5000 cash (CDN) along with a vehicle and cargo trailer.
A 61-year-old woman was arrested and charged with:
- Possession and transport of tobacco product exceeding 10,000 cigarettes for the purpose of sale - sec. 121.1(4)(a) CC
- Possession of proceeds of crime exceeding $5000 – sec. 354(1)(a) CC
- Possession of unstamped tobacco product – sec. 32(1) Excise Act
This investigation is ongoing with the assistance and cooperation of CN Police.
Yorkton RCMP would like to remind the public that tobacco products should only be purchased from legitimate retailers or wholesalers.
