It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Geraine Sheard on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at the age of 85.

She was predeceased by her parents Myrle Sauter and Lillian Faulkner; brothers Duane and Don; and her first husband, George Thompson.

Left to mourn are her husband John Sheard; children Jackie (Lana) Thompson, Louisa (Bruce) Eastuke and Mary (Kent) Aldous; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters June Van Meer, JoAnne Moreau, Carol Mills and Dale Purvis and families.

As a young adult Geraine was involved with 4H, the Legion and the Anglican Church in Maryfield. After the passing of George on July 23, 1970 she moved her family to Moosomin in 1971. She married John on February 15, 1977. Geraine maintained the house in Moosomin until moving to a new house at the Sheard farm in the fall of 1987.

Geraine was truly a genuine, kind soul who would do more for others than she ever did for herself. Her talents were many, from crocheting, knitting, sewing, cooking and baking, to gardening and driving the grain truck. She worked hard, she made others laugh, and she opened her home and heart to many. For many years, she enjoyed the hours spent playing cards and laughing with her sisters. She always loved visits from her family near and far. We are so grateful to her for all she did for family and friends.

Despite her ailments and health scares over the years, she just kept on going—our very own Energizer Bunny. These last several years were not easy on her or any of us. But she remembered all of us to the end. And we did have glimpses of our “old” Mom with saucy comebacks and remarks that baffled us as to how she could still have a quick wit...one of her qualities that endeared her to many.

Her second great-grandchild was born on the morning of her 85th birthday. Gigi (Great Grandma) met baby Adeline the weekend before her passing. She held her, fed her, and loved her. I think Mom hung on to meet that baby. She loved her grandchildren. She was the grandma that always had frozen treats in the freezer. The one that would chase, tickle, hug, kiss and tease. The one that would help build snow forts in the drifts covering the backyard.

In all of this there is relief. No more pain. No more angst. No more guilt. Just gratefulness to have had this person in our lives.

A celebration of life was held March 25, 2017. Interment to follow at a later date.
