Crops okay, but rain will be needed

Helen Carscadden, beloved wife of the Late G. Roy Carscadden, passed away at Whitewood Community Health Centre—Long Term Care on Monday, October 23, 2017 at the age of 93 years.

Helen was born to Michael and Mary Gatey at Moosomin, Saskatchewan on June 30, 1924. In her early years, Helen lived in Moosomin, Kirkella and Walpole as the family moved with Mr. Gatey’s employment with the Canadian Pacific Railway. On October 8, 1947, Helen married Roy Carscadden and together they operated G. R. Carscadden Funeral Home. Roy passed away in May of 1959 and following his death Helen continued to operate the business with the help of her stepson Peter and her brother Gerry. In 2009, Helen retired from the business and due to failing health, she moved into the Care Home.

Helen was predeceased by her husband Roy and her parents Michael and Mary Gatey, her brothers Peter, John, Ken, Norman and Allan, her sisters Ann and Donna, brothers-in-law Cyril Brant, Napoleon (Nap) Stradiotti, George Price and Gerald (Gerry) Moffatt and sisters-in-law Vera, Beth, Bea, Muriel and Barbara. She is survived by stepson Peter (Faith) and his family Janice, Lynn and Mark, her sisters Dianne and Joan, her brothers Gerry (Jean) and Ed and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held from G. R. Carscadden Funeral Chapel—Moosomin on Saturday, October 28th with Helen’s friend Heather McEwen acting as Celebrant. The Honourary Pall Bearers were John and Val Hodgson, Don and Mary McLeod, Dr. Ross and Lynn Kerkhoff, Barry and Lyla Smart, Don and Colleen Middleton and Delma McLeod. Casket Bearers were the staff members of the Funeral Home. The interment took place in the Virden Cemetery.
