In 1952 she returned to banking, and was employed at the Royal Bank in Moose Jaw. From the late seventies to retirement, she was custodian of Success School.

While working in Moose Jaw, Frances spent many weekends at Lawson visiting her sister Katie. The main reason was to spend time with the neighbour boy she had previously met. On June 26, 1954, Frances was united in marriage with Franklyn Strain of Lawson. Six lively children were born to this union! They resided in Lawson for several years, and in 1965 they settled in Success, Saskatchewan until they retired and moved to Swift Current in 1997 where she resided until her passing.

Frances was actively involved in the community activities in Success, and especially enjoyed curling and helping with the entertainment for bonspiel socials. Frances was an active member of Success United Church, and later Grace United Church, serving on the board for many years. She was also a member of the Success Women’s Institute, Success Slimettes, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star—Pennant Chapter where she held the positions of Worthy Matron, Worthy Past Matron, Past District Deputy and Past Grand Officer.

Frances was an avid writer, knitter, joke teller and bun maker. The family all have a special memento from her, whether it be a copy of her book, “Across the Ironing Board” or a special knitted blanket.

Frances is survived by her husband Franklyn of 63 years, daughter Diane (Gene) Hunter, sons, Keith (Cindy), Chris (Janet), Tom (Cindy), Ted (Lorraine) and daughter Shirley (Larry) Olson, as well as eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, brother Doug Gibson, sisters-in-law Frances King and Peggie Strain and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
