Eleanor was born June 13, 1922 on the family farm near Corning, Sask. to James and Esther McKay. She was the last surviving child of eight siblings with two sisters and five brothers.

Eleanor passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018 in the Morris hospital in Morris, Manitoba.

Eleanor attended Normal Shool in Regina.She was a school teacher in a logging camp on Vancouver Island. She later taught at Moffat School near Candiac, Sask.

In 1947 she taught at the Fairmede School and there she met a local farmer George Hodgins. They married on October 20, 1950 and raised four children. Son Vernon (Linda) of Prince Albert, Sask. and children Dana (Kareem), Mitchell (Kristy), Kami (Arthur) and Keegan. Son Wesley 1953-2010, (Doris of Regina) and children Mary (Daniel) and Abby (Jared). Daughter Ellen (Brent) Byggdin of Niverville, Man. and children Jordan (Sasha), Marina (deceased 1990), Keanan (Marie), and Justin. Son Bruce of Muenster, Sask. Eleanor and George had 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren Eli (Kipling) and Layla (Dartmouth, N.S.) who were her great pride and joy.

They farmed Fair Acre Farm for over 40 years, then retired in 1991 to Kennedy, Sask. In December 2014 they moved to Niverville, Man. to the Credit Union Manor Assisted Living.

Eleanor loved to read and to bake. She was still making biscuits in her last years. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed tending her flowers. Her care, compassion, kindness, and sense of humor will live on in us all. We were blessed to have her in our lives for 96 years. The family would like to thank the home care and health care staff in both Kipling, Sask. and Manitoba.

The memorial service was held Friday, August 10 at Niverville Heritage Centre. If friends so desire, contributions can be made to Fairmede Church Restoration Fund Box 440, Wawota, Sask. S0G 5A0 or to Diabetes Canada.

Ash interment at a later date at Fairmede United Church.
