Marilyn Ann Woods, age 88 years, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018 at the South East Integrated Care Centre—Long Term Care in Moosomin, Sask.

Marilyn was the eldest of four children born to James (Doc) and Lucy (Meg) Bowerin at Moose Jaw, Sask. She was a graduate of Central Collegiate and then pursued a career in nursing from Moose Jaw General Hospital, graduating in 1951. As a nursing student, Marilyn was not allowed to reside at home so the Class of ’51 became her second family and what a fraternity it was! They remained life long friends and had reunions every five years which she attended until the age of 80. Marilyn began work at Fort San after which she moved with two classmates to Moosomin to begin a life long career, retiring in 1993.

After her marriage to Ralph in 1954, she began life on the farm. They lived in the Coverdale and Coppice Hill districts where they raised their family. She never really embraced the uncertainty of the farming economy but the beauty and miracles of nature were never lost on her.

In 1979, Marilyn welcomed the opportunity to move to town. They made their first home at 914 Main St. and when they downsized in 2011, they moved to Knotty Pine. In 2012, they made Pipestone Villa their new home. Marilyn was fortunate to remain there with Ralph’s loving care until her health dictated her move to Long Term Care in 2017.

Marilyn had a desire to learn and the fact that she was the first family member to own a computer was a major attraction for the grandchildren. She enjoyed many hours late into the evening keeping in touch with her friends and grandchildren through emails and Facebook and playing computer games. She was an avid reader and enjoyed needlework and sharing her knitting projects with her family. She was a wealth of information on many topics and kept current through newscasts, loved the challenge of crossword and sudoku puzzles. Her enjoyment of sports began with the original six NHL teams of which she could recall many of the players and was sure to wear her Roughrider shirt on game days.

Marilyn was active with the Music Festival Assoc., Mooseberry Acting Co., Book Club, Drop-In Centre and St. Alban’s Choir and Altar Guild. She took a keen interest in any activity that her grandchildren pursued and would become their biggest fan. She saw this as an opportunity to learn, be it the rules of a game or the geography of where they travelled. Marilyn enjoyed travel to England, Asia and bus tours to the Maritimes, Expo ’86, Branson, Minnesota and California. In retirement, Marilyn volunteered with Meals on Wheels and blood pressure clinics.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, brother and sister-in-law Dean and Carol Bowerin and nephew, James Bowerin.

Marilyn’s memory will be cherished by Ralph, her husband of 64 years, her children Beth (Ron) Lundsten, Garth (Lorna) Woods and Marie (Jake) Wiebe, her grandchildren Bryan (Wenona) Lundsten, Greg (Jennifer) Lundsten, Chris Wiebe, Mike (Mackenzie) Wiebe, Candace (Mark Krull) Woods, Becky Harris, Missy (Steve) Myers, Brandy (Chris Nielsen) Woods and her great-grandchildren, Rachel and Jake Lundsten, Rhett and Cooper Lundsten, Haylee Harris and Lauren Wiebe.
