Gladys Mary Ivey (Heaver) was born August 8th, 1939 to Fred and Violet Heaver in Loon Lake, Saskatchewan. Gladys enjoyed many wonderful years on the farm with her parents and brother, Richard, where they enjoyed riding horses and visiting with friends.

In 1956, while attending high school in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan and working part time at Clark’s General Store and later, Pearson’s 5 cents-$1 store, Gladys met the love of her life, Ross Jack Ivey.

Gladys and Ross married on December 20, 1956. Together they travelled with Ross while he worked for the Department of Highways. During this time, Gladys and Ross gave birth to their very first son, Fred. Wanting more for their family, Gladys and Ross returned to Makwa, Saskatchewan, to farm with Gladys’ father and brother. Here, Gladys and Ross gave birth to their second son, Terry and daughter, Shannon.

In 1968, Ross and Gladys ventured out on their own and moved to Moosomin, Saskatchewan where they planned to farm and raise their family. While tirelessly hauling grain, harrowing, picking stones and running meals, Gladys helped support the family farm while working at Blanche’s Grill, Moosomin Co-op, Bank of Montreal, and Weibe’s Family Restaurant.

There was nothing more important to Gladys than her family. She would light up with joy at every opportunity she had to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She was so very proud of each and every one of them. Her favorite times were spent at family get-togethers, where she loved visiting and playing games while having the odd caesar or beer and clamato juice. She treasured these times beyond measure.

On April 7, 2018 Gladys suffered a debilitating stroke. She spent countless weeks in The Royal University Hospital, Yorkton Rehab Centre, Southeast Integrated Care Centre (hospital) and eventually moving into her new home at the nursing home end of the Care Centre.

Gladys was a joy to all her new nursing home friends. She hilariously entertained her caregivers, family, and friends with her silly antics and dry, witty and often off-color humour. She was always so appreciative of everything anyone did for her.

Sadly, on the evening of July 1st, with her family by her side, Gladys passed peacefully at the Moosomin hospital to be by God’s side.

Gladys was predeceased by her parents Fred and Violet Heaver, brother Richard Heaver (Audrey) as well as mother and father-in-law Stanley and Elizabeth Ivey.

Gladys leaves behind her husband Ross, three children Fred (Loretta), Terry (Suchitra) and Shannon, her four grandchildren, Amber Hintz (Jamie), Kirk Ivey, Brittany Pearce (Carey), and Cole McGonigal as well as four Great-grandchildren, Blakeley, Bodyn, Kolten and Tessler Hintz.

Gladys was a very strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her, but will be eternally grateful that she is finally at peace with God by her side.

The Ivey family would like to greatly thank all the doctors, nurses, LPNs and care aides as well as friends and family who devotedly went above and beyond to care for Gladys so lovingly. We were truly blessed by all of your support.
