Construction is underway on Highway 8, between Rocanville and the Qu’Appelle Valley.

As part of the 2021 Saskatchewan budget, the Government of Saskatchewan is investing $830 million into highways which includes much-needed repaving along Highway 8. Because of the ongoing construction, delays can be expected while driving.

Patrick Book, Senior Communications Consultant with the Ministry of Highways says that work began on Highway 8 on April 17 and work will be done on Highway 308 as well.

“Highway 8 and Highway 308 are part of a fairly sizable project. They’re looking at doing a fair amount of work both from the border on 308 to the junction on Highway 8 and a little further up on Highway 8 as well.

“They have started work and they are expecting to be on site until July 30, which is the anticipated completion date. What we are hoping for is for that work to be done in that time frame,” said Book.

Book reminds motorists to slow down when approaching construction zones, noting that speeding fines triple while in construction zones.

“As usual with those construction projects, we always ask that people slow down when they see a work zone and always obey the signage. Speed fines are tripled in construction zones in Saskatchewan, as we all know. We just hope to see all the workers get home safely and all the motorists as well.

“The work will be progressing as scheduled for the weeks ahead.” Book said.
