There’s a special fundraising breakfast coming up at the Moosomin Legion on June 1, one where kids are encouraged to bring their teddy bears. From 9 to 11 am on that day, not only can people enjoy a delicious fundraising breakfast, but any bears with boo-boos can have them remedied by on-site professionals.

“We’re trying to fundraise for our jump in September,” explained Jesse Buchanan from Hutch Ambulance. We were thinking since we’re pretty much doing this for kids, why don’t we do another event for the kids where they can bring their teddy bears to get checked up and fixed by your paramedics and make sure that they’re all better.”

That jump Buchanan mentioned is the Jump for Charity Teddy Bears Anonymous in a friendly fundraising competition at the Moose Jaw Regional Airport. Pool A is Saskatchewan EMS Regina, comprised of Hutch Ambulance Moosomin and Macklin EMS Service. In Pool B is the Moose Jaw Police Service. Combined, eight people will jump out of an airplane from 7,500 feet with a professional Skydive South Sask instructor. Whichever pool raises the most money will have bragging rights for the year, but the real winners are kids.

Money raised through the Jump for Charity 2025 goes to purchase teddy bears for sick kids in Saskatchewan hospitals and to EMS services. The stuffed bears help calm kids who are going through a procedure at the hospital, or who are being transported in an ambulance. Last year, the EMS side raised $6,611 and Buchanan said the effort is well on its way for 2025 with around $4,200 raised so far.

This will be Buchanan’s first time skydiving as well.

“There’s kind of a mix of a little bit more excited than scared right now, but I think at the time it’s going to be more scared than excited,” he said.

Locally, the Southeast Integrated Care Centre in Moosomin and St. Anthony’s Hospital in Esterhazy are participating hospitals in Teddy Bears Anonymous, with EMS and First Responder Services in Kipling, Langenburg, Maryfield, Moosomin, Redvers, Rocanville, the Saskatchewan Air Ambulance, Wawota, and Whitewood taking part.

As for the pancake breakfast on June 1, Borderland Co-op has generously donated all the food and accessories so more money can go to the cause. At $10 for adults, $5 for kids over five, and kids five and under free of charge, it’s a great way to support a worthy cause while enjoying some delicious food—and a check-up for your teddy bear, too!
