For the second year in a row, Jacqui Beckett is selling art cards featuring a piece of her artwork as a fundraiser for the Moosomin Visual Arts Centre.
This year’s cards feature a painting of a tiger lily that Beckett painted.
“This is my second year, but I intend on doing a yearly art card fundraiser for the Moosomin Visual Arts Centre,” she says.
“It’s something I can do to contribute to help funding the arts centre which is very important to me.
“It reaches out to a whole different group of people that have different interests and I think it’s very needed in every community, somewhere where people can go and do their art and for artists to enjoy some hobbies and some social time with people as well and learn new skills, and learn different things from other people.”
Beckett raised $2,000 with the art card fundraiser last year and his hoping to do the same again this year.
“I raised $2,000 for the centre last year and I am hoping to raise the same, $2,000 at least, it would be great if we could do that,” she says.
Beckett says the arts centre can use the money for whatever it needs but is hoping the money will help with some needs in the pottery studio.
“It’s a general donation, but I would have suggestions for perhaps the pottery studio because it’s in need of some more equipment,” she says.
Beckett says the tiger lily on the front of the card has special meaning to her.
“The tiger lillies are our provincial flower, I’ve always loved them, I’ve always looked for them in June and taken tons of pictures and they’ve always attracted me,” she says. “I just love painting flowers, but the tiger lily is very special to the province, and sometimes when my dad and I were out picking mushrooms or picking berries early in the season, then we would always find tiger lilies, and it kind of reminds me of him too.”
The art cards are available at the World-Spectator office, at Moosomin Pharmasave, at McPhail Travel and at the Moosomin Library.
The cost is $20 for four cards and envelopes.
