At the Moosomin Chamber of Commerce meeting, MacLeod Elementary School Principal Tammy Cole told Chamber members that fundraising is in its final stages for a new accessible playground at MacLeod School.
She says the school has raised around $95,000 and is hoping to bring that amount to $100,000, plus the school is applying for the new School Playground Equipment Grant announced by the provincial government in the hopes of receiving that grant and bringing their total up to $150,000.
The program supports the creation of playgrounds on school property throughout Saskatchewan. Eligible projects can receive up to $50,000 in matching funds to build a new playground.
“(Vice Principal) Scott Sully is not here because he is working hard to try to get that grant application finished up and finalized,” she told Chamber members. “We have raised around $95,000 and we really hope we can get to $100,000 and then we are hoping for $50,000 from the government.
“Once we are done that, we are going to be digging some dirt and making a playground. We are really excited about that. We are working on it with Blue Imp which is a Saskatchewan company, we are actually just waiting on some of their drawings, so if anyone has a couple thousand left we would put it to great use.
“We are excited to fulfill this dream of having an inclusive playground come to life. It’s going to be neat.
“Thankfully we’ve had some recent donations from Pharmasave, Rocky Mountain has the last $2,000 they committed to us coming our way this week so yeah, we are getting there. Thank you to everyone in our community because it’s almost done and we are very excited to get it off the ground.”
