It’s going to be another busy Christmas season in Moosomin, with lots planned to get people in the Christmas spirit and encourage local shopping as the holiday season nears.

World-Spectator Christmas Giveaway
The World-Spectator Christmas Giveaway has kicked off and will run until December 18 when the grand prize of $15,000 to one lucky local shopper is drawn, plus dozens of other prizes valued at over $10,000 from all of the participating businesses. To enter the draw, shoppers must shop at the participating businesses, and the winner of the draw can only spend their winnings back at the participating businesses, making for the ultimate local Christmas shopping promotion.

Hot Chocolate Festival Dec. 1-7
This year, the Moosomin Chamber of Commerce is planning something new with a Hot Chocolate Festival that will run the week of December 1-7.

Seven different restaurants in Moosomin will each make their own special hot chocolate and people will get a chance to try them all and vote on their favorite as they are out and about doing their Christmas shopping that week or during Moonlight Madness on Dec. 4.

Trends Mercantile, Witch’s Brew, the Crate House, Cork & Bone, Red Barn, Dairy Queen and the Country Squire will all have hot chocolate on offer.

People can vote for their favorite at hotchocolate@world-spectator.com for a chance to win Moosomin Bucks.

Moonlight Madness Dec. 4
Moonlight Madness in Moosomin is set for Thursday, Dec. 4 this year. Stores will be open until 9 am that night, giving people a chance to do some late-night Christmas shopping. There will also be a draw for $100, $250 and $500 in Moosomin Bucks that people can enter when shoppers get their Moonlight Madness card stamped at five different stores on December 4.

The Moosomin Visual Arts Centre will also be open that night with hot chocolate, a Christmas ornament class, cookie decorating and a pottery wheel demonstration, all at no charge.

Free movie Dec. 6
On Saturday, December 6 the Moosomin Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a free movie matinee at the Moosomin Community Theatre. How To Train Your Dragon will be on at 2 pm, giving parents a chance to drop their kids off that day and do some local Christmas shopping.

Santa Day Dec. 7
The Moosomin Kinettes are hosting Santa Day again this year on Sunday, December 7. Santa will be at MacLeod Elementary School from 1-4 pm that day, giving kids a chance to get their photos taken with him.

Countdown to Christmas Draw Dec. 15-20
In the final week leading up to Christmas, from December 15-20, the Chamber will host its Countdown to Christmas Draw. Shoppers can pick up Countdown to Christmas stamp cards all week long and have them stamped when they shop at local businesses for a chance to win $100, $250 or $500 in Moosomin Bucks.

“It’s important that we have a lot happening during the Christmas season in Moosomin to encourage people to make the most of the season right here in town,” says Moosomin Chamber of Commerce President Kevin Weedmark. “Moosomin has amazing businesses, and we want to encourage people to do as much local shopping as possible, and we want our town to be a fun place to spend the Christmas season.”
