Charges laid after abduction, ATV accident

At approximately 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14th, Saskatoon RCMP responded to a report of an adult male threatening an adult female in the Hanley area.

Upon arrival, members learned the suspect had departed the scene on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) with the victim, against her will.

The ATV was located, but the suspect refused to stop for police. No pursuit was initiated due to the potential risk to the victim.

As members continued to patrol, the victim was located walking along a rural road.

She told RCMP that the ATV had rolled, allowing her to escape.

She indicated that she believed the suspect had been injured in the collision.

Members located the ATV, but not the driver.

Police Dog Section (PDS) was brought in to assist and the suspect was located a short time later hiding in an empty railcar in the area.

The suspect was arrested without incident and transported to hospital for non-life threatening injuries sustained in the collision. T

he victim was also transported to hospital for treatment.

A 37-year-old male from the Wakaw area has been charged with the following:

- Assault Causing Bodily Harm – sec. 267 Criminal Code

- Uttering Death Threats – sec. 264.1(1) CC

- Failure to Stop for Police – sec. 249.1(1) CC

- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle – 249(1) CC

- 2 x Breach of Probation 733.1(1) - CC

The accused is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Saskatoon at 10 a.m. on October 17th pending recovery from his injuries.

Forensic Identification Section is assisting in the investigation.
