This is an important time of the year for local retailers, and retail groups in communities across the area have special events planned over the next few days to kick off the 2015 Christmas shopping season.

Moosomin Moonlight Madness Wednesday
Moonlight Madness in Moosomin will be this Wednesday, December 2 this year.

Shoppers out at the stores between 6 and 9 p.m. have the chance to win $500, $250, or $100 in Moosomin Bucks.

Shoppers will be given a Chamber of Commerce Cash Card at the first business where they make a purchase. They must make a purchase and have the card stamped at four more businesses that night, then leave the card at the last business where they make a purchase.

Everything from a supper in a restaurant to a coffee to a purchase in a retail store can earn one stamp on the card.

At the end of the night, draws will be made for the Moosomin Bucks.

As well, people will have the chance to get discounts and prizes if they run into Borderland Co-op's mascot, Cooper.

Cooper will be out and about in different stores throughout the evening. He will be carrying a Santa sack that will contain coupons and specials for various businesses. One shopper will receive a $100 gift card from Cooper.

After this week, some Moosomin stores plan to be open Wednesday nights until Christmas.

Rocanville Tree Lighting Thursday
The Rocanville Board of Trade is kicking off the Christmas shopping season with a tree lighting this Thursday, Dec. 3.

Music will be provided by the After Eights and the Rocanville School Glee Club, and there will be a hot dog roast at the Fire Hall sponsored by Borderland Co-op.

On Thursday, Dec, 10 from 6-8 p.m. there will be Santa photos at Conexus Credit Union, a hay ride from the Co-op Home Centre parking lot, and Cooper will be handing out freebies and coupons. There will also be late shopping on Thursday, Dec. 17. People who shop all three nights can be entered to win $1,000 in gift certificates.

Wawota Santa Day this Friday
Wawota is having its Santa Day and Customer Appreciation Day this Friday, December 4.

There will be free skating with snacks provided at the Wawota Forum starting at 3:30 p.m., crafts at 4 p.m. horse-drawn hay rides from 4-6 p.m., and a free hot dog supper starting at 4:30 p.m. Santa will arrive at 5:50 p.m. and photos will be available. There will be a free movie at the United Church at 7 p.m.

Elkhorn Light-up Night Friday
Elkhorn will hold its Light Up Night on Friday, Dec. 4.

The event will include 38 vendors at the Elks Hall from 5-9 p.m., a parade down the village's main street, and the light-up sponsored by the Elkhorn and Area Foundation.

Moosomin Santa Day Saturday
The Moosomin Chamber of Commerce Santa Day will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5.
