Drug bust in Melita

Westman RCMP busted a Melita man for drug trafficking while seizing a sizable amount of drugs, including 24 ounces of methamphetamine.

In the late afternoon on July 28, Westman RCMP officers executed a search warrant at a residence located in Melita.

Police seized methamphetamine, five ounces of marijuana, 56 grams of "shatter" — a hash oil concentrate with the final product looking like a sheet of maple syrup candy — a small quantity of cocaine and hash, a firearms and a small amount of money.

As a result, police charged a 38-year-old Melita man with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possessing a controlled substance, assault, forcible confinement, uttering threats, unsafe storage of a firearm and failing to comply with a probation order.

"Our officers worked hard and their efforts were rewarded with a significant seizure of meth," RCMP Sgt. Ed Riglin said. "These drugs would have had a profound effect in the community of Melita and the surrounding Westman area if this substance had been able to hit the streets."
