Masson and Associates has opened an office in Moosomin, after purchasing the former Davidson’s Financial Services.

Moosomin is the third office for Masson and Associates, which also has offices in Virden and Brandon.

Owner John Masson has roots in Western Manitoba.

“I grew up on a farm south of Oak Lake,” he says. “I entered the accounting profession after obtaining my Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Manitoba. Many people think I entered the accounting profession because I like numbers. While I do like to analyze numbers, the real reason I entered the profession is that I am an entrepreneur at heart and thrive on strategically working with other small business owners.”

Masson started out with a large firm before starting his own company.

“After obtaining my Chartered Accountant designation with a national firm in Winnipeg, I made the move closer to the home farm, where I worked as a manager at another national accounting firm,” he explains. “I opened my first office in Virden in 2013, and since then we have grown to a staff of eight. I am in the process of adding an additional designated accountant. I am a firm believer in providing personalized, smart and effective service.”

He said he works with others outside the company to provide specialized services.

“When I opened my practice, I strategically teamed up to work with a fantastic tax partner at my previous firm,” he says. “They are a national accounting firm that do not have offices in the area, so it’s a perfect fit as it provides my clients with access to tax, valuation and other specialists on an as needed basis. This allows me to provide a niche personalized practice—while outsourcing the specialty work as required.”

Why did he decide to open an office in Moosomin?

“Moosomin is very similar to Virden, so it’s a natural transition for me and is something that I had considered for a while,” he says. “When I was approached with this opportunity, it was a very easy decision for me.”

Masson said the Moosomin office should be a good addition to his firm.

“I am excited about opening the Moosomin location. Marie Wiebe, previously with Davidson’s Financial, will be staying on full time and she has proven to be a fantastic addition to our team. She has a wealth of knowledge in personal and small business tax, bookkeeping and accounting. I will be in the office frequently and am looking forward to meeting the new clients.”
