Glen passed away peacefully with his family at his side at Regina General Hospital at the age of 71.

Glen was born in Moosomin, Saskatchewan and raised on their family farm in Coppice Hill District. He was the 16th child of 20 born to Isaac and Eliza McGonigal.

He worked on Fred Fawcett’s Farm in his younger years as well as for Jack Baker. Moved to Kamloops, B.C. in 1973 and was employed at Kal-Tire retreading plant in 1975, returned to Moosomin where he worked for Sam Nevin as a truckcat operator. In 1977 he was employed by PCS Rocanville Potash Division until his retirement 2012.

Glen enjoyed playing dice with the family and spending time with the grandchildren. He liked to take the grand kids to the gravel pit when they were younger and go “fossil hunting.” He enjoyed watching and cheering at the grandchildren’s hockey games as well as other activities they were involved in. Glen loved gardening with lots of tomatoes, carrots and potatoes. An Irishman has to have their potatoes. You would always see him having a toasted tomato sandwich enjoying what he harvested.

You would find him assisting Ilene with the cooking, baking, and canning. Taste testing as he goes and tweaking the recipe for next time. Glen loved nature and being outdoors in the summer. You may find him sometimes by the creek with Garth, Tyler and Colin catching some fish. He spent his time feeding and watching the birds at the feeder as well as attending to the lawn, trees and flowers with care. He also spent time renovating and landscaping around home. In the past he has built bird houses and a couple of picnic tables we use at family gatherings. He also enjoyed getting together for wiener roasts and sitting around the campfire.

Glen was predeceased by his parents Isaac and Eliza, father-in-law and mother-in-law Clifford and Emma Knudson, brothers: George, Ray, Keith, Melvin, Delbert, Derek, and Dennis, and sisters: Marion, Joy, and Doreen.

He leaves to mourn his wife Ilene of 49 years, two children: Garth and Gail (Mark) Sawatzki, five grandchildren: Melissa, Tyler, and Colin McGonigal, Tyson and Layton Sawatzki Brothers: Norman (Rose), Lawrence, Reg (Barb) and Dale (Carol) McGonigal. Sisters: Jean Roy, Betty Roy, Fran Empringham, Marilyn Hogarth and Violet (Alexander) Zachary and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

Private graveside funeral service/interment at Moosomin South Cemetery with family only.

Arrangements were entrusted to G.R. Carscadden Funeral Chapel. Rev. Lip Boon Lee officiating. Friends joined the family for a time of fellowship and refreshment at the Seniors Drop-In Centre. Lunch provided by Presbyterian Church Auxiliary.

The family would like to thank Regina EMS for their quick response to the house; the doctors and nurses and staff at the Regina General Hospital for Glen’s care. We also thank all our family and friends for all of their love, support and prayers during our time of need. We are truly grateful.

We would like to thank all those who sent food, gift cards, flowers, sympathy cards, donations to charity and condolences, to the pallbearers, eulogist, Tyson Sawatzki and Tyler McGonigal for reading the Irish prayer.
