Ethel was born January 8, 1933 in Moosomin, Sask. to Louis and Susan Verbaan. She was the seventh of nine children. She attended Red Jacket School to grade nine, walking two miles up hill both ways.

Ethel chose to stay on the farm working hard raising and training horses. In 1951 she was once part of a Wild West Show.

The family loved to travel near and far to Regina occasionally and often to B.C. and Alberta to see the other girls.

Ethel continued farming in Red Jacket until 1968. They had no running water or electricity on the farm. Her and Susan ran the farm on their own after Louis passed in 1967. Ethel took a job a the nursing home in 1971 and worked there until 1993.

They moved to the acreage west of Moosomin 1970.

Ethel love to travel. She wandered all over Canada and as every state in the USA. She was to Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii.

She had many hobbies painting, woodworking and carving, sign making and metal work, gardening and fishing.

She was always up for a quick game of crib and liked to go to the casino occasionally.

She always looked on the positive side. She was a straight shooter and always called a spade a spade. She worked hard, and when you came to visit—you worked hard too but you enjoyed it—it was fun to work with her.

Ethel was predeceased by her parents and siblings. Nellie and (Fred) Siefert, Ruby and (Otto) Zwelhke, Emily and (Hoss) Morrison, Katherine Verbaan, Margaret and (Keith) Smith.

She is survived by her sisters Iris Verbaan, Vera and (Al) Elliot and brother Bill Verbaan. Special niece Marlene (Tom) Botterill. Nephews Ken (Linda) Zuelhke, David (Wendy) Zuelhke, niece Wendy (Walter) Tomyk and many, many other nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral service was held February 2, 2019 at Carscaddens.

Ethel will be intered at a later date to be followed by a celebration in her honor.
