The Glasser family donated $20,000 to the Moosomin Airport expansion project on July 5.

John Glasser, owner of Glasser’s TV, says he knew the airport project was something his family had been wanting to donate to for a while.

“We have known for a long time we had to do this for the airport,” he said. “The airport is important for many reasons and I knew we were going to donate—it was just a matter of time. It is important for the community.”

Schalk Van der Merwe and Jeff St. Onge, of the Moosomin Airport, says the donation will help move the project forward.

“It makes a huge difference,” said van der Merwe. “We are coming to the end stages, but there is still quite a bit of money to be raised so this just another important step to finishing up the project.

“We’re more than three-quarters of the way there. Our next big step is getting all the lights and the electrical, which is a significant amount of money yet to come so this just helps us along to get to the final step. Now, it is the lights, electrical, and hangers to complete the project. It is really important for us. If we get all the money and all the funds we should be done by the fall so this just another step forward, so let’s get this done for the fall.”

St. Onge adds, “It’s over the top. I could do this all day. Every time somebody comes forward to donate it re-energizes the project, they’re keeping it in the community’s eyes, and showing how important it is.”

Van der Merwe says there have been many municipalities, individuals, and business owners coming forward to support the airport expansion project.

“There have been 19 municipalities, towns, villages, and all the private donations of 40 or more people—individuals, businesses contributing, what a time to be a part of it. It’s exciting to see it happening, and exciting to be in the final stages.”
