Mark Dec. 15-17 on your calendar and get ready for winter fun as the Pipe Si Cana Winter Games and Festival returns to Moosomin.

“This is the first year we’ve done it since COVID,” said Mike Schwean, Director of Parks and Recreation with the Town of Moosomin. “It’s just a nice way close to Christmas to celebrate the community as well.”

It’s going to be a busy weekend with plenty of activities lined up to thrill athletes and spectators alike.

The Mike Schwean Arena is set to host Minor Hockey, Senior Rangers Hockey and Figure Skating.

Over at the Conexus Convention Centre, the courts will be hopping with Pickleball, Basketball and Volleyball games.

The Nutrien Sportsplex is to host Indoor Golf, Bowling, Shuffleboard, Billiards and Cards.

All the exciting Broomball action takes place at the Co-op Community Outdoor Rink, and plans are being set for Cross Country Skiing, a Poker Derby and Speed Skating.

Schwean noted that local businesses are kind to the Parks and Recreation Department, “so we try to pay back where we can.” One example is the Co-Op sponsorship of medals for the Games this year.

A poster with all the details is expected out this week, but some plans have been forming. Hockey from U9 to U18 levels will see 12 different games and there will be a figure skating event on Friday night. Pickleball, Curling and Golf are slated for Saturday, while Senior Games will run both Saturday and Sunday.

“It will be a pretty full weekend for us,” Schwean said, excited to have the Games back after a brief hiatus.
