Today is the start of Smile Cookie Week at Tim Hortons. The Moosomin location has a three-year streak of raising the most money in the province in Smile Cookie sales each year, and this year’s recipient, MacLeod Elementary School, is hoping that continues.

In 2024, the Moosomin Tim Horton’s sold $45,000 worth of cookies with the Play Fair Daycare being the recipient. This year will see MacLeod Elementary as the beneficiary of the funds raised, with money going toward the south playground project at the school.

“We’re pretty excited,” said Moosomin Tim Hortons owner Greg Crisanti. “The team knows what’s going on, the freezer is full to the rafters of cookies, and they’ve actually increased the box sizes on us, so it looks even crazier than normal in there.”

For weeks, the Moosomin location has had pre-order forms available in-store and online, something Crisanti says has already proven successful.

“We’ve had some amazing community partners come on board pledging to purchase some cookies for the community,” he said. “Our pre-orders have been fantastic, and we’re just so thrilled to have a great head start. The support so far without even starting the week for McLeod Elementary School is amazing.”

Knowing about orders in advance not only ensures better organization for Smile Cookie Week, but allows inventory to meet the ever-growing demand, as seen with past Smile Cookie campaigns.

“It keeps us very organized as far as the orders go,” Crisanti said. “When people come in for large orders on the fly, we have them ready. We’re veterans with this now, and other Tim Hortons franchisees and locations are following suit with what we do. So friendly competition gets more difficult as years go by, but we’re just happy to support amazing communities across the country for sure!”

Crisanti added that the amazing support from the community through the spring Smile Cookie campaign and the Holiday Smile Cookie promotion during the winter has definitely put Moosomin on the map.

An added incentive to support the cookie campaign this spring could be matching funding from the provincial government. A new program announced in the March 9 budget for school playgrounds launched with $3.75 million annually earmarked for up to 75 projects, with the potential for $50,000 in matching funds for school playground fundraising projects.

Essentially, the more money MacLeod Elementary can raise through the Smile Cookie campaign, the more that can be matched by the government and the faster the school can build their new playground on the south side of their property.

Smile Cookie Week runs from April 28 to May 4.
