The Mullett family—Robert, Rose and their daughter Kalea—have announced that they will be matching donations for the Moosomin Airport Expansion up to a total of $20,000.

Donations can be dropped off at Mullett’s Home Hardware between August 19-31, with the Mulletts totalling up what has been donated at the end of the donation period and making a matching donation.

Robert Mullett says their hope is to raise $40,000 for the airport between their matching donations and the individual donations they are matching.

“I just thought that we’re getting nice donations from businesses like Pharmasave and others in the area, and it’s an important service to have, so I thought that if we would match it, it would be a nice thing to do,” he says.

“A kid can give $20 or an adult could donate $1,000, and if we collect $25,000 then we’ll match $20,000 of it and give a $45,000 donation instead of just the $20,000. If they make the cheques out to the RM of Moosomin I can forward those cheques to the RM with my cheque and they’ll be able to get a donation receipt.

“I thought that maybe this would be something where we could hit an area bigger than Moosomin and get the outlying area.”

Why do it?

“For the same reason that everybody else does,” says Robert. “If you save one life, then it’s worth a million dollars, right?

“We lost our daughter and it wasn’t because of the lack of air ambulance, but life is precious. Plus there are other spinoffs. So if we can do it, people are going to use it.

“Air Andrew said last week in the paper there are going to be other spinoffs on top of saving lives. We’re in a perfect spot, right in the middle of Canada, and there’s lots happening here. So I think if anybody raises funds for causes like this, it’s all for the good.”
