A new consignment store has opened in Carlyle.
Opening up a new business is never easy and there are many things that need to be in place. A building is needed, finances need to be in place, product is needed, and staff to make the store run smoothly.
None of these things bothered Chris and Shayda Johnson as they had a vision and they planned to go ahead with the store. They wanted a place where people could bring their unwanted clothing without having to do the garage sales or give it away for free.
Chris and Shayda Johnson are a husband-and-wife team, and they wanted to offer clothing that was clean, free from stains and rips at a great second-hand price. When they posted that this was their plan, Shayda said her phone went crazy with messages.
Their day starts at 5:30 am as they also clean some buildings. Once that is done, they head over to the store that is located in Carlyle in the strip mall by Dairy Queen. The store is already filled with multiple items of clothing ranging from clothing for newborns to adults. The walls have been painted, and dressing rooms are in place.
They say they are overwhelmed with the support they have received from the community and are working with the Carlyle Food Bank as well. Once a month they are planning to take a rack of men’s and women’s clothing to the Seniors Care Home to allow people to purchase items. This will be done on a donation basis.

The store has done a soft opening with clothes coming in almost daily. Not only will they have clothes, but they offer shoes and a line of jewelry and purses, and some new handmade items. Right now, they are still getting the store organized and have a full display of spring and summer clothing. Winter clothes may be brought in but will be put in storage until the season arrives.
Chris and Shayda felt there was a need for a store like this, and said with so many people struggling, it gives people the opportunity to purchase good clothing for a fraction of the cost. Their grand opening is planned for July 8 and they will be open that day only from 8 am until 8 pm.
They will offer drinks and snacks throughout the day. They want their customers to come in and feel welcome and have a great experience. Randee Lynn Akachuk is helping the couple get organized and will be part of the team to offer all people a joyful and fun-filled visit to their store.
