Communities in Bloom award to be presented
Moosomin Chamber of Commerce meeting January 29

A Communities in Bloom award acceptance luncheon will be hosted in conjunction with the next Moosomin Chamber of Commerce meeting on Wednesday, January 29.
Moosomin was named a provincial winner in the 2,001-3,000 provincial Communities in Bloom population category in 2024. The town was awarded five blooms with a special mention for Commitment to Cultural Heritage Preservation.
Moosomin also picked up an honour for Trees and Urban Forestry, relating to work on the town’s urban forest.
The judges evaluate communities on a number of factors, including community appearance, environmental action, heritage conservation, tree management, landscape and plant and floral displays. This year, Moosomin scored 827 out of 1,000 points, for an 83 per cent bloom rating.
This qualifies the town to move on to the national Communities in Bloom competition.
At the meeting on January 29, the Chamber will talk about the pros and cons of being a part of the national competition.
Andrew Exelby will be in attendance at the meeting to present the award as well to explain what competing at a national level looks like.
The meeting will be held at the Nutrien Sportsplex at 11:45 am. Lunch is free and
Living Skies Come Alive fireworks competition
Also at the January 29 Chamber meeting, Kyle Jeannot will be speaking about the Living Skies Come Alive fireworks competition planned for the August long weekend at Moosomin Regional Park.
The competition has been resurrected after a few years without it. This year the competition will be between Saskatchewan and Alberta.
A committee is being formed to run the competition, and Jeannot will speak about how plans are coming for the event, which in the past drew in tens of thousands of visitors to the park.
The competition will be held on August 2 and August 3, with two different shows being set off those nights by each of the competitors.
