Mooseberry Acting Company getting ready to perform ‘Cash on Delivery’

The Mooseberry Acting Company is preparing to perform its upcoming play called Cash On Delivery by Michael Cooney. Performances will take place on November 21, 22 and 23.

Cash On Delivery is a comedy about a man who has duped the welfare authorities by claiming every type of benefit possible for people he claims live at his address. After deciding things are getting out of control, he decides too kill of the imaginary recipients. Welfare investigators show up and some start asking questions, while others are offering more benefits. In an effort to outwit the department, the con artists enlists the help of a real lodger and his uncle. The production features ten cast members from Mooseberry Acting Company. Rehearsals began in early September.

The play is directed by Phil Hamm and Sheilagh Garrett. Garrett said she is looking forward to bringing another entertaining event to the community.
“It is an opportunity to provide the community with a fun-filled evening of laughs and joy. An opportunity to forget about all the problems in life and enjoy what is going on,” said Garrett.

The Mooseberry Acting Company is a community-based group, and all funds raised from its performances go back into the community. Garrett said the group focuses on producing h plays that encourage audiences to relax and have fun.

“We try to keep it really light-hearted,” Garrett said. “We just want people to come out, laugh and enjoy their evening. We have fun doing it, and we want our audience to have fun and enjoy the performance.”

The Mooseberry Acting Company traces back to the 1980s under original director Phyl Henry.

“Mooseberry’s plays are intended to be fun,” Garrett said. “We encourage cast members to bring their own style and humour to the roles and not to take things too seriously.”

Members of the cast and crew spend significant time together leading up to performances, forming a close-knit theatre family.

“We have more people coming out and enjoying the shows and participating in the shows.”

The Mooseberry Acting Company invites the community to attend Cash On Delivery for an evening of laughter and entertainment.
