RM of Moosomin giving $30,000 to Rocanville Aquatic Centre, $10,000 to Welwyn for new zamboni

At their last council meeting, in addition to committing $75,000 over three years to the town of Moosomin for upgrades at the Mike Schwean Arena, the RM of Moosomin also passed a motion to give $30,000 over three years to the Universe Satellite Aquatic Centre in Rocanville and to give $10,000 to the Community Recreation Organization of Welwlyn (CROW) for the purchase of a new zamboni for the Welwyn Rink.
“Welwyn indicated that it cost them to replace their Zamboni. So we’re contributing back to them to cover the cost of that purchase because we do know that there are lots of ratepayers from the northern end of the RM that utilize that rink and curling surface,” says RM of Moosomion Administrator Kendra Lawrence.
In the case of the pool in Rocanville, it recently underwent a major refurbishment, and opened its doors just before Christmas.
“We recognize the need for those recreational facilities, and we do know that our rate payers utilize them. We don’t have them ourselves in the RM, so we help assist the urban centres that do,” says Lawrence.
