It is with a heavy heart that the family of John Puskas announces his passing on June 21, 2023, one month short of his 72nd birthday.
John was born on July 23, 1951 in Budapest, Hungary and immigrated to Canada with his parents and brother during the Hungarian Revolution.
Following their arrival in Canada, John gained four more siblings, a second brother as well as three sisters.
John’s early years were spent living in Dumas with his parents and siblings.
In 1972 he married Lynn Cudmore, bought his first home in the town of Wawota and began his own family with daughter Connie and three years later son Kevin. Although the marriage didn’t last, his relationship with his kids did not faulter.
John was no stranger to hard work; a trait well learned from both his parents. He cleaned coal cars in Bienfait, both with his dad, and later on his own.
He began working in the masonry and concrete trade where he eventually became an entrepreneur. Puskas Masonry & Concrete was the company and over time it became a partnership with his son Kevin.
John is better known by his nickname “Thunder Cloud” or TC for short. As the name Thunder Cloud implies, he was a force to be reckoned with, but at the same time he was also a softy.
There was something about him that kids were drawn to and he loved it—calling them ankle-biters. Not only did he himself have a nickname, he was infamous for giving nicknames—just as he had countless phrases that will be talked about for generations to come.
John is predeceased by his parents Victor and Julia and brothers Gabriel and Willy.
He leaves to mourn, his daughter Connie (Brent), son Kevin, grandchildren Skylar (Russell), Cody (Chelsea), Donovan, Genevieve (Curtis), and Noah, sisters Susie (Jim), Martha (Rick), Frida, sister-in-law Val (Willy), numerous nieces and nephews as well as countless friends.
We have truly lost a legend that will never be forgotten. Wawota won’t be the same without him! “We love you like a rock!
