Doris Elizabeth (nee McGimpsey) passed away peacefully on Friday, December 6, 2013, at the Virden Westman Nursing Home, at age 89 years.

Left to mourn is her beloved husband, William Ronald Begg and his children: daughter Maureen (nee Begg) LaMontagne (son-in-law Peter), sons Philip and Alex (daughter-in-law Ann); grandchildren: Dawn, Patrick, Micheal, Rebecca; and great-grandchildren: Kallen, Kelsey, Aaliyah and Taiya. She is predeceased by her parents Elsie and Thomas McGimpsey, younger brother Stan and her oldest son Allen. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Helen McGimpsey, as well as numerous cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.

Doris was born and raised on the McGimpsey farm in Kirkella, Man. until her marriage in October 1961, when she moved to Clinton, Ont. In 1967, following her husband’s retirement from the military (RCAF), they returned to her Kirkella home district. Following an interim stay on the McGimpsey farm, Doris and Ron purchased the Kirkella General Store and post office, which they continued to operate for another 30 years.

In 1997, they sold the family business and relocated to Virden, Man. to enjoy their well deserved retirement. Over the years, Doris was involved with many community activities, the Anglican church, meals on wheels and gardening. Doris and her husband travelled to various parts of Canada, the U.S.A. and Europe to see family and friends, or to seek out new adventures along the way.

A funeral service was held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Virden, Man. on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment took place in Fleming, Sask.

Special thanks and heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, health care staff and palliative care, at the Westman Nursing Home. As well, sincere appreciation goes out to local friends in the community, St. Mary’s Church and Carscadden Funeral Home for their total kindness and professionalism. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Doris’ name may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
