Gordon Grant of Moosomin, Saskatchewan passed away suddenly at his home in Moosomin on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at the age of 73.

Gord was born in Virden to parents Neil and Betty Grant. He started life on the farm in Miniota, Manitoba, then moved to a farm in Arawana district near Kola in 1957.

Gord left home at the age of 16 to work locally before eventually joining the CP Rail steel gang in B.C.
In 1973 he began farming and married Claudia Canart in 1974. Between 1977-1981 they happily welcomed three sons into the family. In 1983 they left the family farm and headed to Boston Bar, B.C. where Gord once again joined CP Rail—first as a mechanic, shop supervisor and then Field Maintenance Supervisor. After being transferred to locations including Port Coquitlam, Calgary (Okotoks), and finally to Revelstoke, Gord retired from CP, and Gord and Claudia moved back to the prairies, settling in Moosomin.

No matter where they hung their hats, Gord’s heart was always on the farm. He enjoyed spending time “touring” the country, looking at the crops and watching for wildlife. He had an amazing memory for places he visited and people he met throughout his life.

Gord enjoyed nothing more than a good visit with family and friends. With Gord, no one was a stranger, they were just someone he hadn’t met yet. He was always willing to lend a hand and help someone in need.

Gord had been an active member of the Saskatchewan and National Alzheimer’s societies and worked hard to reduce the stigma surrounding the disease.

Gord enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Papa taught them to drive the gravel roads, shoot 22’s, fish, and each learned that they would be loved no matter what. He enjoyed many family trips to the north for fishing, sledding and hunting.

Gord was the beloved husband of Claudia; loving father to Greg (Danielle), Terry (Jen), and Ken (Minda); and loving papa to Dalton, Stuart, Kelston, Kezia, Cara, Graham, Gwen, Cypress, and Harlan.
Gord is also survived by his dad Neil (Darlene) Grant, siblings Betty Ann (Jim), Sylvia (Gary), Barb and Larry (Shawna), mother by marriage Mildred Canart and siblings by marriage Mark (Janet), Ron (Beth) and Barry (Jill).

He is predeceased by mom Betty (Ed) and father-in-law Dan Canart.

Gord will be deeply missed!

Words cannot express our sincere appreciation for all of the support we have received since Gord’s passing.

The kind words, caring hugs, many offers to help, food delivered, gift cards, phone calls, etc. all helped us get through this difficult time.

Many thanks to the ladies who served lunch for us.

A special thanks to Hutch Ambulance crews, the RCMP, and Carscaddens for their kind and caring professionalism.
