Gil was born on September 21, 1937, to Charles and Stella Gray on their farm near Carnoustie, Saskatchewan. He was the third child out of four—their only son.
Gil met Ruth Jamieson at McAuley and they married in January 1959. They lived in Regina where Tammy, Cindy and Rick were born. They moved to Moosomin in 1967 and seven years later Murray was born.
Gil’s working career included farmhand and pipeline jobs until he became a journeyman bricklayer in Regina. He formed his own brick and stone company when he moved to Moosomin (Potash Masonary).
After that he did carpentry and cement work (M.G. Construction) and lastly, he worked on the construction crew, operated in the refinery, and did replacement cement work (Rocanville Potash Mine).
Gil and Ruth parted ways in 1998 and he retired in 2002. Gil and Maureen were companions for the last 21 years.
Gil was a hard worker and that did not change after he retired as he was always helping someone.
He volunteered many summers at Carlton Trail Regional Park and also looked after three yards—his own, Maureen’s and the cabin at the Carlton Trail.
Gil loved to dance and drove to many dances in different communities. It would be rare to see him sit down for a song, he loved to spend the entire night on the dance floor.
Gil passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024 after a short stay in the hospital.
He is survived by his companion Maureen Fletcher, children Tammy (Terry) Rachynski, Cindy (Ed) Cuthill, Rick Gray and Murray (Jennifer) Gray;
grandchildren Joe (Caitlin), Alix (JF), Mike, Megan (Mark), Tyson (Michelle), Kristin (Kair), Jake (Kennedy), Adam (Sydney), Avery and Blake; great-grandchildren Ronin, Raiden, Chloe, Brooke, Kale, Rylee, Liliana, Miah, Brynnlee, Kyla, Keastyn, Jayda, Jaxon, Gavin, Nathan and Austin.
Gil is also survived by siblings Thelma Dumville and Shirl Hunter.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Olive Dietrich.
