Judith (“Judy”) Kathryn Gillis passed away peacefully on February 9th, 2025.
Beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, Judy was the centre of her family and lived a full life of love, care and devotion. Wife to Jack Gillis, she was his devoted partner in life, whatever the endeavor or escapade.
Born in Miami, Manitoba to Verlie and Robert McDonald, she was an active member of her church and the communities she lived in. A registered nurse who trained with the Grey Nuns in Regina, her career of over 40 years saw her practice first in public health, then at the Moosomin Union Hospital and finally at the nursing home in Moosomin.
She was known for her community involvement, being active in the figure skating, golfing, swimming and tennis clubs, and a longtime member of the congregation and choir of the Bethel United Church; she was a sought-after soloist for weddings and other events. Her rendition of Amazing Grace could make the most stalwart Scot weep for the old country.
Judy was a dedicated member of the fraternal charity of the Order of the Royal Purple (OORP), becoming Supreme Honored Royal Lady for Canada in 1991-1992, touring across Canada in support of numerous local lodges as well as fund raising for the Purple Cross Fund.
Most of all she loved her family and friends, and was often hosting gatherings and parties both in Moosomin and at the family cottage at Round Lake. She and dad travelled extensively over the years across Canada, the USA and around the world.
Predeceased by her husband Jack, her parents and in-laws, Judy leaves to mourn: daughter Tracy Lynn Loustel and grandsons Nicholas (Rachelle) and Brendan (Tina), granddaughter Brooke and great-grand daughter Luna; son Grant Owen (Carolyn), grandson Jack and granddaughter Hannah; daughter Alison Dawn Burgess (Scott) and granddaughters Ashton (Ryan), Abby (Warner) and Kaitlyn (Randy), grandson Mitch (Megan) and great-granddaughters Mazey Rae, Liza James and Aurora Beverly Dawn.
We miss you already so much Mom. Until we meet again, sleep Dearie sleep.
