Our Dad, (George) Lane Cross of Kipling, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025 surrounded by his family.

Lane was born August 8, 1934 to Charles and May Cross. He was the fourth of five siblings: Hattie Cook, Mildred Sproat, Murray Cross and Elsie Schaefer.
Lane married Jeanette (Wilhelm) Cross in 1959. They moved onto their farm 10 miles northeast of Kipling in 1961. This became the home and sanctuary for a large and vibrant family that Dad was incredibly proud of. They had six daughters, 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dad was a farmer at heart. He took great joy in the beauty of the prairies and was proud to work the land his entire life. In the early years, he farmed alongside his father and then later with the help of his daughters. While Donna is the one carrying on the farming tradition, the ingenuity and work ethic Dad believed in is evident throughout the family. Dad will be honoured and remembered by all of his family who loved him dearly.

Lane is survived by his wife Jeanette; his daughters: Barbara Cross, Judy Cross (Doug Hogan), Nancy (Pat) Hollman, Mary (Ronald) Henrion, Elaine Cross (Rob Smales), and Donna Cross (Clayton MacLennan); his grandchildren: Kayla (Jordan) and Lucas (Judy’s kids), Emily and Matthew (Nancy’s kids), Calvin (Chelsey), Amy (Charlie) and Jessica (Jesse) (Mary’s kids), Franny (Elaine’s kid), Lane (Samantha), Hazel, Emerson, Ewan, Shane and Matthew (Donna’s kids); his great-grandchildren: Maverick, Axel (Kayla) and Conrad (Calvin); his sister Elsie and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, older siblings, siblings-in-law and his grandson Benjamin (Donna).

There was a private service in Lansdowne Memorial Church on May 16, 2025, followed by a public tea and reception, including the eulogy, in the Kipling Community Centre.

If desired, charitable donations can be made in Dad’s honour to Benjamin’s Gift of Music program at the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, #1 - 345 3rd Avenue South, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1M6.
