Mom passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025 at the age of 89 years. In true Eileen style, she waited until harvest was over, but left before the snow flew.
Eileen Mabel Browning was born on October 14, 1936 in Moosomin hospital. Along with her older sister Doreen, her childhood was spent on the farm in Woodleigh District, near Wapella with a lot of cousins living close by. Her love for animals began here and she was never without a dog, maybe two, and a house cat, if it accidentally wandered in. After high school, she obtained her teaching degree and taught in Waldron and Indian Head.
In 1965, Eileen and Bruce married and together they built their life on the Dunsmore Family Farm. They welcomed two children, Calvin in 1965 and Lana in 1967. Her family and the farm were the greatest joys in her life and her house was the hub of activity. She loved her life, raising children and tending to her large yard and garden. She was very much a part of the farming operation, driving grain truck or dropping everything to run for parts. She opened their home to many young men over the years working on the farm. This included two Danes who have become a very special part of the family. She learned early to always peel a few extra potatoes as Bruce famously brought home friends or salesmen, with no notice, to join them for a meal.
In their spare time they enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbours. “Toddy time” was a chance to relax and catch up at the farm or at the Esso, after work. She loved curling, both to play in her earlier years, and then as a spectator as she grew older. Travelling to visit family or to a warmer destination to avoid winter was a big part of their life.
In 2012, Bruce and Eileen decided to move into Rocanville, so the next generation could take their place on the family farm. After Bruce’s passing, in 2019, with her health declining, the decision was made to enter nursing home care in Moosomin where she spent her remaining years. Even as her health declined, you could always lift her spirits with stories about what was happening at the farm or how the garden was doing. You could see her eyes light up as she pictured every detail of what was happening, and she would often correct you if someone told her other information about the farm earlier in the day. Along with the family living close, she also now had two small great granddaughters to come in and brighten her day.
Eileen is predeceased by her husband Bruce, parents Walter and Elsie Browning, her in-laws Cecil and Jean Dunsmore, sister Doreen Halpenny, son-in-law Dean Becker and grandson Colby Becker.
She leaves to cherish her memories son Calvin, daughter Lana Becker Hudym (Trevor Hudym), grandchildren, Jill Becker and Brady (Candy) Becker and great-granddaughters Vie and Bea.
