Norman Carl Gibson of Brooks, Alberta, sometimes known as Barney, passed peacefully on November 10, 2025, with his wife of 50 years by his side, at the Brooks Health Centre, at the age of 75 years.
Norman was born in Moosomin, on August 24, 1950 and grew up on a farm in Wapella, Saskatchewan. He married Joanne Trenaman on November 1, 1975 in Moosomin and moved to Brooks to work at Brooks Livestock.
Sherry and Chris were born in Brooks. In 1979, they moved to Rainbow Lake and High Level, where he worked as a janitor. Tracy was born in 1981. They moved back to Brooks and Norman worked at Kinbrook Park, Bow Slope Shipping, and was self-employed as a janitor and property manager.
He enjoyed family gatherings, antique vehicles, and camping. Norman was a Flames and Brooks Bandits fan. He was a regular at Tim’s and known for his love of donuts.
Norman will be remembered for his sense of humour and pranks. He was always willing to help friends, family, and strangers. Someone stuck in the snow, out he would go to help push or pull, or give a boost.
Norman was predeceased by his father, James and his mother, Muriel; brothers, Ernie and Henry and sister Fay Niebergall.
Norman is survived and missed by his loving wife, Joanne Gibson, of 50 years, children Chris and Laura Bruni, Sherry Gibson, Chris and Clara Gibson, and Tracy and Chris Cyr. Forever in their hearts and remembered by his six grandchildren, Kimberlee, Deanna, Patrick, Mathew, Ryan, and Caleb; one great-grandchild, Alex; sibling and her family, Lil Steptoe; aunt Shirley and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 from 1- 4 pm at the JBS Leisure Centre, Brooks, Alberta.
Cremation and funeral arrangements is entrusted to Smith Funeral Home Ltd., Brooks, Alberta.
