Vernon Hall, beloved husband of the late Karen Hall, loving father of Donald Hall (Ginette), Denise Chadney (Dale) and proud, loving grandfather to Kade Chadney, Tristin Hall, Jaxon Chadney and Scotlyn Chadney, passed away suddenly at the Southeast Integrated Care Centre in Moosomin at the age of 73, on Monday, December 1, 2025.

Vern was born October 29, 1952 in Wawota, Sask. His parents Elma and Clayton Hall had five children, Clayton born 1945, Nita born 1946, Twins Ronald and Donald 1948, and Vern in 1952.

Vern grew up in Kelso Sask. where his mother and father ran the general store, and the family lived above it.

He attended Kelso school, where his mother Elma taught French.
Vern’s father passed away in June 1961, his brother Clayton passed away in December 1966, and Donald passed away in 1967.

The general store was sold, and Elma and Vern moved to Moosomin in 1968.
Vern worked a few different places before finding his true life-long career at Prairie Livestock in 1979.

Working for Harvey and Francis McDougall, Kissner Transport, Kleyson Transport, Dalve Enterprises, even going out to Golden, B.C.

Vern met Karen McKenzie while working for Francis McDougall and they were married June 1, 1974. They were celebrating their 51st wedding anniversary this year.

September 6, 1974 they welcomed their son Donald Glen.
Vern was driving truck, hauling cattle and many trips Karen and Don would accompany him across Canada and into the States.

On July 16, 1977 their daughter Denise Marie was born.

Vern started working at Prairie Livestock in 1979 where he remained.
Vern started his career with Don and John Middleton as a yard guy working his way up to order buyer. Don, Vern, and Laurence McCormick built a lot of the pens and alleys currently used at Prairie today.

Vern travelled to cattle sales all across Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
They raised their family in Moosomin, until they purchased a farm a mile out of town in 1990 and Bear, their dog, joined the family, then was followed by Blue in 1996.

Karen worked at the Co-op grocery store for over 20 years and had a video rental store. She bought Tino’s Restaurant in 1995. Lots of friendships new and old were made here.

Their farm consisted of cattle and horses. There was lots of time spent with their friends going to horse events over the years, moving cattle, and the yearly Moose Jaw gymkhana finals was always a great time.
They moved to the current farm in the Kelso area in 2003 and remained there until this year.

Vern loves and is so proud of his grandkids. He was so excited when his first grandchild Tristin was born in Australia in 1999 to Don and was thankful they moved to Canada for a bit. Tristin’s visits were always special. Vern was proud of Tristin’s career in mining in Australia. Kade was welcomed to the family when Denise married Dale, followed by Jaxon and Scotlyn. Vern was proud to attend Kade’s grad in Oxbow and proud of his long position on the rigs. Vern was so proud to see Jaxon graduate high- school, study at the University of Manitoba, and this summer they attended three car shows together. Vern attended as many of Scotlyn’s Highland dance competitions that he possibly could over the years including in Halifax and Kamloops. He recently went to her Regina competition, and to Virden to watch her high school volleyball tournament.

Vern enjoyed to travel, traveling to destinations like Aruba, Mexico, Columbia, St. Barts, St. Vincent and an Alaskan cruise with Karen the summer of 2024.

Woodlands Resort in Devils Lake North Dakota became an annual trip, with them trying to go every summer for the past 13 years.

After the loss of Karen in July of 2025, Vern was doing pretty well. He took a trip out to Quebec, Toronto, and Barrie this September to visit customers, friends, and Don and Ginette.

Vern recently bought a condo and seemed so happy and relaxed. He loved his new place.

The family would like to thank the cattle industry and producers for all the amazing tributes they have shared on social media. Vern cared so much for the cattle industry that he left this world doing what he loved, with his Prairie Family.

There is an old saying, dying of a broken heart, and we truly believe that Vern missed Karen so much that this was the case.

Vernon was predeceased by his beautiful wife Karen Hall (McKenzie), his parents Elma and Clayton Hall, mother-in-law and father-in-law Elva and Angus McKenzie, brother Clayton Hall, brother Donald Hall, nephew Travis Hall and niece Lisa von Krzensinski.

Vernon will be sadly missed by his son Donald Hall (Ginette Langlois) and grandson Tristin Hall, his daughter Denise Chadney (Dale) and grandchildren Kade, Jaxon, and Scotlyn Chadney, his sister Nita Dickin, her son Ryan Dickin, brother Ronald Hall (Linda), niece Terra-Lee Jack (Rob) and daughters Alexis and Maci.

Sister-in-law Myrna Light (Cliff Dobson), brother-in-law Jack McKenzie, niece Shelley Waldbauer (Ashley) and their children Madison, Cole and Kara. Nephew Ryan Light (Winter) and their daughters Emerson and Macy, as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

A beautiful celebration of life was held on December 12, 2025 at the MCC in Moosomin and private interment was on December 13, 2025 at Kelso Cemetery.
