Grant was born at Fairlight, Sask. and went to school at Fairlight and Maryfield. He loved to play hockey in his early years where he participated on the Maryfield, Fairlight and Wawota hockey teams.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Brenda (George) and children Jay Thompson, daughter Robin (Dan Sahulka) and grandson Conner James. He is the son of the late Fred and Lorna Thompson.
Grant was born into the life of a dairy farmer. He was very passionate about farming and worked very hard raising some of the best Jersey cattle in Canada. He was a lover of the Angus breed and spent many years working with his children to build a large commercial herd.
He loved to grain farm as well. Grant served 27 years on municipal council. It was important to him to look after his surrounding farming community. He was an active volunteer on the Fairlight Recreational Board. He worked very hard and made time to help his neighbours without asking for anything in return.
