Suzette passed away peacefully on Monday, August 4, 2014, at the age of 33 with her husband Bernard at her side. She will be deeply missed by him and their daughters Nadège and Magalie; her parents Thérèse and Antonio Boutin of Redvers; mother- and father-in-law Odette and Jacques Fafard of Ste. Marthe; siblings Marc (Anita), Alice (Kelly), Pierre (Brenda); Lily (Kim), Charly (Maureen), Bruno (Chantel) and Larry (Sarah); brothers-in-law Réjean (Charlene), Mario and Alain (Jenny); and their families.
Suzette was predeceased by her brother Roy.
As a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, godmother, cousin, teacher, friend and member of the French community, Suzette touched countless lives with her caring demeanor and boundless love.
Born and raised in Estevan, Suzette attended the University of Regina from 1998 to 2002 to realize her dream of becoming a teacher. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, and Suzette and Bernard were married in 2001. They lived in Quebec and Manitoba before returning to Regina in 2006, where Suzette began teaching at École Monseigneur de Laval.
As a teacher, Suzette was deeply committed to passing on her love of the French language and culture to her students. She loved them all dearly-even on the most trying of days-and recognized the beautiful qualities in each one of them. A committed member of the French community in the province, Suzette served on the executive of the Association des parents Fransaskois and the Gard’Amis child care centre in Regina. She was also an active parishioner of the Paroisse Saint-Jean-Baptiste.
Suzette was a devoted mother to her daughters and they meant the world to her. She enjoyed doing their hair, teaching them rhymes, making crafts with them and going on trips with them. She was happiest when the house was full of family, friends, children and laughter. Bernard always joked that Suzy was busiest during her two maternity leaves when she could devote herself full-time to organizing play dates and inviting guests over for visits. Suzette loved food, particularly sweets, and no one ever left Suzette and Bernard’s home without having a drink and a bite to eat.
The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the many doctors and nurses who cared for Suzette, particularly the staff of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, Ward 3B (Oncology) and Ward 3A (Palliative Care) at the Pasqua Hospital. Many thanks as well to the numerous friends and members of the community who offered prayers, food, flowers, donations, time, wisdom and a compassionate ear. The overwhelming support that the family received over the past months is indicative of the number of lives that Suzette touched.
A celebration of Suzette’s life was held in Regina on August 9 with Saskatoon Archbishop Don Bolen presiding. Interment took place at Ste. Marthe Cemetary on August 30, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Suzette’s memory may be made to the Paroisse Saint-Jean-Baptiste, 2517 - 25th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4S 4E8, 306-586-5006, or to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan 1-345 - 3rd Avenue South, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1M6, 306-931-4618.
