Age 69 years, 6 months
Roger passed away peacefully with courage at the Southeast Integrated Care Facility, with his loving family at his side.
Roger grew up on the family farm and attended the Orangeville country school, and later high school in Moosomin. He had farming in his blood and he purchased his first land in 1963, from Ivan Burden, starting his career of farming with his father, later with his wife and finally with help from Harry Meister.
He had many happy memories from growing up with his parents and his brother Dale and of good crops, some not so good, friendly neighbors who pitched in to help each other, and sharing the traditions of loving the land he farmed with friends of the same desire.
After retirement, Roger and Jan traveled some, enjoying each other and the company of friends, sharing happy moments to cherish when his mobility became a problem later in his life.
Some of his hobbies were flying for a short while and then enjoying his comrades at the Marshal McLeod airport and the flying club. He loved taking pictures of nature, flowers, sunrise, sunset, clouds and so many other interesting things. Sometimes, he would sit at length waiting for just the right lighting or the right angle, for the perfect shot, always enjoying the process of photography.
After his fight with cancer in 1993, he and Jan enjoyed weekends fishing and camping with the gang, playing cards, visiting, tipping a few, and traveling on trips with friends or family, enjoying each miracle day he was given.
Many friends enjoyed his humor, his wit, his laughter at jokes or pulling a few of his own pranks, and he was appreciated for his honesty, his loyalty to friends and family, his ability to listen and to care for each person as an individual. Many cherished memories of his life, well lived, will be fondly recalled by anyone who knew Roger.
Roger was predeceased by his parents, Albert (1986), Bertha (1997), his aunts and uncles, and cousins.
Roger is survived by his loving wife Jeanne (Jan) of 44 years; his brother Dale and wife Donna, their family of Damien (Shamayne), Dustin (Andrea) and their children Brayden, Ole and Gus; Grady (Ashley) and their children Jaide, Wyatt, and Emily Rustebakke; sister-in-law, Lillian Milroy and her family of Jay, Kim, Jeff and their families; sister-in-law Margaret Walker (Don Vereseen) and her family of Tracy, Allan, Clint, Tony and their families; Betty Zazalak’s family of John, Fred, Bob, Bill and Melody and their families; aunt Jean Rogers; other family members Teena, Ralph and Cecil, along with various cousins and their families. He is also survived by close friends Harry and Sandra, Bev, Jim and Lil, Stan and Shirley, John and Gloria and more loved friends who were a part of his life. Roger cared about his family members on both sides and each of his family know that he loved them for who they were to him, special to him in their own unique way.
Jan will forever cherish his life as a precious treasure that only he could be for her. He lived his life with energy when he could, laughter and fun, caring and sharing, and he faced cancer in the end with dignity and courage.
Funeral service for Roger was held at Carcadden’s Funeral Chapel on October 10, 2014, with Reverend Minho Yoo of Carberry, Manitoba officiating.
The organist was Sharon Beutler, scripture reader was Catherine Dorcas, ushers were John Yeo and Vi MacKay. Dale Rustebakke and Lillian Milroy gave the eulogy, and Dale Rustebakke and Kim Bohrn were the urn bearers. Donna Rustebakke prepared the video. Lunch followed at the Moosomin Armoury and was served by the armoury lunch committee. Interment will be at a later date.
And the Lord said, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
