
Rita Blackmore of Fort Saskatchewan, Alta. passed away Monday, November 3, 2014 in her 71st year after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born November 28, 1943, in Antler, Sask. to Kathleen Ida (nee Hean) and Ralph Edward Peloquin, Rita was predeceased by two infant sisters, Jean Rose and Patricia Ann, and two brothers-in-law Herbert and Frank.
She is survived by her husband Keith of 48 years; sons Brian Ashley and Craig Edward (Arlene); granddaughters Olivia Annette and Heidi Amanda; siblings Margaret, Donald (Louise), Louise, Audrey, Betty, Shirley (Phil) and Joan (Yvonne); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rita grew up near Hargrave, Man. and attended high school in Elkhorn. She graduated from Teacher Training at Brandon College in 1962. She taught two years each at West Two Creeks, Man., and Mary Montgomery School in Virden. On October 15, 1966 she married Keith Blackmore and spent 40 years on their farm near Maryfield, Sask. before retiring to Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.
Throughout her life Rita enjoyed square dancing, photography, sewing, gardening, and travel, especially the family’s annual trips by motor home and numerous cruises taken after retirement.
Large family gatherings during holiday seasons or at the lake in summer were special times for her. Rita and Keith spent the last 20 winters in Mesa, Arizona as snowbirds.
The memorial service was held at First Memorial Riverview Chapel in Fort Saskatchewan, Alta. on Friday, November 7, 2014 with interment in the City of Fort Saskatchewan Cemetery.
