
Islay was born April 22, 1926, the youngest child to Arthur and May Gillespie in Prosperity District, Rocanville
In 1943, Islay started working at Symons Metal Works, manufacturing oil cans. She married James Laughlin Bowey December 10, 1947. They farmed in Archie municipality, McAuley. They had two children, Catherine May born in 1950 and Gordon Arthur, born in 1952. James was diagnosed with Hodgkins disease in 1954 and passed away in 1956.
Islay married George Bowey November 9, 1958. Islay and George farmed the family farm until they retired to Moosomin in 2002. George passed away May 29, 2015.
Islay participated in games at the Moosomin Seniors club and loved playing cards.
Islay leaves to mourn her daughter Catherine, son Gordon (Brenda) and granddaughters Danette (Jeff), Charlotte (Shawn), Nicole (Scott), and Michelle (Neal); great-grandchildren Skyler, Breanna, Anthony, James, Shelby, Cody, and Colton. She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and May Gillespie, husband George Bowey, sister Margaret, brother Peter, James Bowey, son-in-law Jake, brother-in-law Jim, and sister-in-law Jean.
Islay was buried at Welwyn Cemetery January 8, 2016
